A rolling stone gathers no moss...but what about a tennis ball?

Recently, I've seen a lot of Styrofoam ball transformations using moss. Setting for Four has a great tutorial using reindeer moss and The Yellow Cape Cod transforms her Styrofoam balls using Spanish moss.

This project has been on my 'hope to do one day list' BUT admittedly I am cheap.

The moss is about $5 and the Styrofoam balls about the same. SO, I had one of those 'aha' moments, when I was throwing an old tennis ball to Riley. I may not have Styrofoam balls on hand but I do have tennis balls.

So, with my glue gun in hand and some Spanish moss, I started to transform my Riley's tennis balls.

Not bad, huh?  Seriously, who would guess these were tennis balls?

I'm happy with my thrifty mossy orbs {I feel weird saying mossy balls, does that make me immature?}

I am not so sure Riley feels the same about her upcycled tennis balls.

  1. I love this! I'm a cheap-o too, this is a good way to use what you've got.

    Poor Riley looks a bit sad though.

  2. Brilliant! I loved Heather's moss spheres at Setting For Four and have had them on my to-do list for a while. Tennis balls are a great choice for their base colour as well. No need to paint first!

    I hope you bought Riley a new tennis ball for his crafting sacrifice ;)

  6. What a brilliant idea!! They turned out so cool! Gives me an idea:D I've been trying to figure out what to display at my front entrance and been wanting to plant something.. but since I live in condo, I don't know if plants will survive. Your "mossy balls" :P are a great alternative! Thanks Amy!
